Message from Mary Jung, INMD Scientific Director

Over the past month, I have had the privilege of attending several scientific meetings and engaging with researchers across the diverse INMD research communities. It has been inspiring to learn about their work – particularly that of Early Career Researchers – as they launch innovative projects and advance new scientific directions. I was also delighted to co-present the INMD Early Career Investigator Partnership Prizes with our partner organizations to outstanding recipients.
I extend my gratitude to the Cardiometabolic health, diabetes and obesity FRQS theme research network and the Quebec Lipid, Nutrition and Metabolism Society for hosting a highly successful MetaboliQc 2026 meeting. The calibre of research and the cross-pillar, interdisciplinary approaches showcased throughout the program were exceptional. Congratulations to Jean-Philippe Drouin-Chartier, this year’s recipient of the CIHR-INMD CMDO Early Career Investigator Partnership Prize.
It was equally a pleasure to participate in the TRIANGLE (TRaIning A New generation of researchers in Gastroenterology and LivEr) meeting which was held in conjunction with Canadian Digestive Disease Week (CDDW) and the Canadian Liver Meeting. Meeting TRIANGLE trainees and witnessing the commitment of TRIANGLE mentors and program leaders underscored the value of this INMD-funded health research training platform. My sincere thanks to Drs. Nicola Jones, Derek McKay, Bruce Vallance and Linda Pires for their warm welcome and their continued leadership.
During CDDW, I also had the opportunity to meet with leadership from the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) and the Canadian Association for the Study of Liver (CASL). I look forward to strengthening our longstanding partnerships and exploring opportunities for INMD to further support these research communities. It was an honour to co-present the INMD Early Career Investigator Partnership Prizes with CAG and CASL. Thanks to the CAG and CASL leadership for the productive meetings and their openness to sharing their perspectives with me.
I look forward to continuing to meet members of INMD’s research communities, learning more about emerging research directions, opportunites for growth, and existing challenges. Wishing everyone a happy Spring.
